Nyesom Wike: Federal government not supporting our development policies
Rivers State Governor, Nysome Wike, has expressed worry over the manner the Federal Government is treating the state by not supporting its developmental efforts, despite the huge natural resources which creates wealth for the country.
Wike made this disclosure, while speaking on the plan by the state government to develop its tourism sector and attract investors to the state, which according to him, is not being achieved as neither tourists nor investors will come to the state without the Federal Government approval.
He said: “No tourist will come here without the Federal Government approval by giving visa. Today, we have lost so many investors because the federal government believes that Rivers State is in opposition.
“And that is not supposed to be because whether you like it or not if investors come in to develop our tourism the federal government will get revenue from it but that is not the case here.”
This situation, he said, was frustrating the efforts of his government, as he disclosed that:
“The truth of the matter is that everything is done to frustrate us. We produce the wealth of Nigeria but nobody supports us and that is why you hear the cries for restructuring.
“Yes, I have the mind that tourism should grow but I also have a limitation, a restriction that is dependent on the government in power at the central level.
“If you have a government that is hostile to the state government how can you achieve it? You can’t achieve it. And that is not what is supposed to be.”
The governor said the Federal Government had never hidden its displeasure for his state, stressing: “We must be able to tell ourselves the simple truth. The federal government does not like my state.”
